$1.99 Strawberry Shortcake

Why bother baking... when something this pretty costs $1.99? I bake to try to save money... because I'm a sweets-aholic. I know how expensive it is to go out and buy good tasting stuff.... but... 2 bucks for a decorated cake with real strawberries on top at Trader Joe's? Oh my! The best thing about this is pretty good! This cake isn't so sweet (a plus!,) and the sponge itself it kind of nice. It's a good cheap thrill, and I'm all up for that. I hope to stock my freezer with these cakes for school... I'm sure I'll be needing some sugary treats for my all-nighters and it'll probably last me like 2 days of nibbling?...Maybe this will start a trend in 2 dollar cakes at Trader Joe's? They should have a 2 dollar chocolate mousse cake.... yum.. chocolate....or maybe it's not supposed to be 2 bucks... who knows? I'm going to bake something soon.. I think I will try... a flourless chocolate cake.. which is actually my favorite type of "cake." : ) I have been meaning to bake a cake lately... but the Olympics have been taking up my usual bake time.. it's pretty easy to get hooked onto watching it even if I know who wins because it's not live. Boo. I will bake my flourless chocolate cake tomorrow because my heavy whipping cream is probably expiring as I type... and then possibly a red velvet birthday cake next week... it will be the return of my fondant cakes... this will be interesting.. because it's been 2 months since I've touched fondant! I have a wonderful idea in mind for the cake. It's going to be a surprise, and it has to survive a train, plane, and car ride... and if you're reading this right now... Hi. and.. Surprise!!! I'm bad at keeping surprises... I get too excited : D

Edit: Guess which store carries FROZEN french macarons? ... that's right... Trader Joe's... carries FROZEN FRENCH MACARONS... see I knew macarons are becoming more popular here!... although these macarons aren't as pretty as the store bought ones.. I'm sure they taste just fine... This won't stop me from making them though. Homemade ones are prettier... have more complex flavors (they had vanilla and chocolate)... and cost substantially less. A small box of macarons cost $4.99... which is cheaper than bakeries!... but frozen macarons... something about that is just... not.. right... sigh.
