Bagels

My first attempt at bagels. I call it a success.. with reservations. It tasted like a bagel.. but didn't look like a nice bagel. I think I need to learn how to knead dough to a nice smooth and elastic ball before I can every be happy with the look of these bagels. I cut down the recipe a bit so my stand mixer didn't really engage the dough well with its hook. I should have used my trusty bread machine next time.. or take my time at kneading the dough. Just like making pretzels, I had to dunk these in a water bath, the original recipe just had pain water, but I read somewhere that a baking soda and sugar mixture makes the crust have more of that bagel texture.

I made 6 mini bagels.... all topped differently...I didn't use an eggwash because I didn't want to waste a yolk...but I think I should have to get that pretty color. My favorite one.. hands down... would have to be the one topped with mozzarella and jalapeƱos :) I should have stretched these out more so they're not was poofy shaped... and the hole is more of a circle.... rather than a.. well not going to go there.... haha. ANYWAY. Bagels.. will definitely be revisited soon. I will also buy more baking soda one day so I can comfortably make pretzels... dogs... or bites.. yum... pretzels.

I won't post the recipe... there are plenty out there and all are pretty similar... and this one was just ok. Time to find the perfect bagel recipe :)
