If my camera could talk.... it'd say...

"WASH ME"
I really have used and abused my camera for the wonderful 5 months that I've had it... basically the #1 reason why I wanted to get an SLR was to photograph foods. Silly reason, I know. Food is my passion, as corny as that sounds. I'd like to make and keep beautiful memories of my cooking progression and adventures. However, since I like to take pics of everything I make, my camera is awfully dirty.... no I don't run it thru dirt or anything. Just.... flour, sugar, fondant, frosting... .. I'm a really hands on person.. so.. anything on my hands go onto my camera. Sigh. I don't believe in cases for things... those people freak me out with cases for everything.....I've never had a case for my iphone (tried... but it masked the beauty)..or my laptop.. ( I just slip it into my bakpak!)... never had a case for my small cameras.. because I always slip them into my pocket (SO many scratches.. but the lens is still perfect!).. so where do I put my camera? ...uhhh.. in my purse's dust bag and then I throw it into a HUGE bag.. and tote it around! No one will ever know... hehehe.... I've always been into photography, but on a more ohh ahh of the latest and greatest and most compact digital camera. This was a step up... waaay up.... and well holding my tiny canon really doesn't cut it anymore... There is just more depth, beauty, and flexibility in dSLR photography.. the only problem is that.. now that I've started young... there's no where to go but up from here.... the L series lenses.. the Mark .. whatever cameras....I'm finished with the "budget friendly" canon rebels (XS and XSi) and lenses (50, 18-55, 55-200, 75-300)....and I still need to figure out how to make use of the nifty fifty...gahhhh... anyway. I still have time to kill... on average I use my camera 15-20/30 days a month... so I will figure it out by the end of the year.. hopefully. I really can't wait to start work...and I don't think I can start til... at least one more week... darn background check. But.. I'm excited!!!.. : D

So.. I finished 2 of my fondant/gumpaste classes. I learned a lot! There definitely is so much more to practice .. because .. well.. I don't think I got the anatomy of the flowers down... my roses look like carnations.. or a made up flower.. I want to make large flowers.. but don't have the cutters for it. : ( So yea. here are the things I've made in the last 2 days of classes... it's always nice to look back on the "first time" I worked with gumpaste... and Wilton's pre-packaged fondant... just a warning .. everything is stuck in the 80's.... sorry... the book was copyrighted in 1984.. yea.. this is an ancient art form hahahha...

Fondant .. well there wasn't much to do with fondant... but cover a cake.. fondant isn't as sturdy as gumpaste, so all we did for decorations were leaves.. fall leaves..

-Leaves made of fondant... 4 colors, Juniper Green, Copper, Yellow, and Brown.. I didn't have a veining tool that day so I etched in the lines myself..

- I like this leaf the most, it's kind of burnt on the tip, and really green towards the stem...

Gumpaste Things

- Calla Lilies

- This isn't a rose, but it was supposed to be one.. I say this one looks more like a carnation

- hahahha this was supposed to be a rose as well ... um getting there.. I need to study roses and the curvature of the petals.. I'm sure this is a type of flower somewhere in some garden.. This flower took me 30 minutes.. w..t..h... rolling and cutting out 14 petals and gluing them individually on.. iono if I can make a huge cake with these flowers : (

- Dainty daisies .. I didn't have a small enough tip so the middle is really ugly..

- What I've learned so far... does not look like a lot.. but it's pretty time consuming.. everything is.. edible, but I would never eat it...I don't think it would taste good, plus these flowers dry HARD .. kind of like porcelain.. and they actually last.. "forever"..so they say....
