When I go into a project without a clear picture in my mind...

Things just don't look.. quite... right. HAHA So I made this cake thinking that I would be able to do quilting and draping, and also put on a ton of fondant flowers that I've made throughout the course, but sadly, I put the pig on top and called it a night. It is random, but it does utilize a lot of the skills I've acquired throughout my last few months of cake decorating classes. Oh well, maybe next cake. I'm just not to fond of doing cakes as I am cupcakes. I think it's because of the size, and that I still don't have quite the steady hand to pipe nicely and evenly.

Oink Oink Oink, it's a baby piggy! It was supposed to be a baby bunny, but I didn't get the ears right, so it turned into a piggy, after substantial modifications. It is wearing, as my teacher calls it, a "European" diaper.. you know the ones with cloth and pins? I might put a bow on it and call it a girl, who knows, I'll save that for a rainy day.. oh wait, that would be tomorrow. haha. This isn't the prettiest cake I've made. It's just a test run of things I can do on cakes like scroll work, quilting, dots, and using cake toppers. It's just so different decorating ON a cake, rather than on a practice board. I think my consistency for royal icing is still wrong, last time it was too wet, now it's too stiff, the wilton instructions are WAY off, I added a few extra tablespoons for 1/3 the recipe and it's still too stiff. I don't know I like royal icing actually. But here it is, the cake, this isn't a finale cake for my course because it doesn't have any flowers, but I will make one later, when I feel like sitting for a few hours assembling flowers petal by petal.

This is a triple chocolate cake: chocolate cake with dark chocolate filling, and dark chocolate frosting. I don't think anyone will eat it. I found out the day after I made it that the milk had soured way before expiration. Who tastes their milk every time they bake?! ... it wasn't chunky... so I never questions : (. So yea, maybe that's why I didn't care for this cake, it really isn't going to be devoured, much like all my other creations. Cake present pops, and cherry blossom cakes all went... to... the... trash.... yes I am SO serious about that. I really am starting to reconsider the idea that I want to make things that look too pretty to eat, because, I really do admire it each day X 7.. until it spoils... and then hit myself on the head because I just wasted food...You should see my face when I have to put it in the trash. I think I make my mom throw some of them out so I don't have to suffer..... : (

Up next: Since I love decorating foods, why not decorate my camera? No I'm not putting on stickers and stuff, I'm making it more feminine. I want to make my dSLR a fashion statement. More women are venturing in the land of photography, and well, everything is just so.. manly.. and ugly. (I'm also searching for the perfect camera bag that looks like an everyday purse.) I went to the fabric store today, and spent an hour picking out decent looking fabric (trust me.. 80% of that store was NOT fashionable...unless u were a child or lived in the 1800's.) I will draw out the pattern tonight and sew it hopefully. Can't wait to start up the good ol' Singer again. Goodbye Fondant, Gumpaste, and Cakes for awhile.... I think... haha

  1. That pig is to die for. I can kind of tell where it might have started out as a bunny, but it looks great! And your piping looks pretty good! :)

Did you "steam" the baby bottle, like they do in the cake shows on TV, to get that glossy look?

  2. haha wow you know about the steaming too?? I tried to steam one of my flowers once.. but it kind of turned mushy and gross, then when it dried, it looked very vintage-y. For the wet look, I painted it with edible glue that I used to glue all the bits and pieces together.

  3. yeah I wondered about that nifty steaming tool that they have on cake boss... I was kind of skeptical because it looks like a gadget that you'd use to steam your dirty carpet haha! Edible glue eh? That sounds pretty cool!
