Coffee Junkie

Every week I go to the store and buy coffee. I try to be my own starbucks. Every week, it's been different. I've gone from the generic brand coffee to organic to super premium. This coffee collection is slowly turning into my well neglected tea collection :(

So, school hasn't gotten any better. My life revolves around 0.25mm mistakes, and rigid plastic. But hey, looks like I can sort of do crown preps.. we'll see how I do next practical haha..

So, in honor of not really baking anything new, I've decided to keep this post as a reminder of all the coffee I've tried in the past few weeks.

Week 1- Greenwell Farm's 100% Kona Coffee, Bought it at the farm in HI
- I drink this really rarely. It's my special occasion coffee, kona coffee is quite expensive, and I don't know if I can ever get this brand again without traveling to Hawaii. It was such an informative tour around their grounds. I learned more than I've ever wanted to know about the coffee making process. (pictures above were from the tour)
Week 2-Allegro Mocha Java , Whole Foods
- A very good blend, smooth and rich in flavor. Also it fills my apartment with the wonderful smells of freshly brewed coffee! This was my first time buy coffee grounds...
Week 3- Allegro Earthquake Blend, Whole Foods
- A little too bitter for me, maybe because I like more of a light roast?
Week 4- Jeremiah's Blend - Vanilla , Mollie Stone's
- Yum, vanilla flavor isn't that apparent, but it has a good smooth texture
Week 5- Safeway Select Hazelnut, Safeway
- very delicious, and cheap too! Most of the other ones were around $11 a pound, this was $8 - ish. I bought 60 cents worth of this coffee... good enough for my weekly supply.
Week 6- Jeremiah's Blend - Kona Blend, Mollie Stone's
- Pretty decent, I tend to mix this with the other flavored ones. It's a little darker than I'd like, but some days I just want that extra body in my coffee.
Week 7- Safeway Select's Breakfast Blend
- Only bought 59 cents worth.. using it to mix with my leftover flavored coffees... was very smooth so far!

I've gotten a routine, which kind of makes me happy. This makes me go to the store each week and try something new. Once I'm done trying all of the flavors, I will probably test out Peet's, Starbucks, Coffee Bean, and Tully's? iono if they sell beans. I typically buy around $2 worth of coffee grounds each week. Not bad... considering a cup of coffee runs around that much at the shops.

I'm making it a goal to have 10 different types of coffee by the end of the quarter. I'm also looking at new ways to make it.. definitely looking into an aeropress.. supposedly it doesn't produce as much acid in the coffee.. which would be perfect for me. I don't really get heartburn as frequently anymore.. only when I don't eat. It's hard to make time for food when there's so much to do. I just want to take a stroll around the area every weekend. Enjoy the nearly perfect SF weather.. sigh....when will I ever live in an area like this after graduation??? Probably.. never... Pac Heights is a neighborhood really out of reach for me and my goals. I guess reality will hit me in a few years... I'm still living in my fantasy world.

Cutest thing ever.. Mini Moo's. half and half.. paired with some 100% Kona Coffee... in a cute cafe off the highway in the big island...

This lil guy joined us for breakfast at that same cafe (which also had wonderful views of the Kona Coffee farms and the ocean!)... SO adorable!!!! I guess normally I would be freaked out if I saw something like this... but iono.. he was TOO cute.. and didn't mind us taking a ton of pictures of him :)

  1. do you have a coffee grinder? You are so good to buy your own coffee to make at home. I do have my own grounds at home, but I just like the novelty of getting a pre-made frothy drink at Starbucks. Having the rewards card doesn't help either. :-/ Starbucks (and the like) typically sells only 1/2 pound and 1lb beans. I usually just buy a pound and it lasts me several weeks.
