I'm a sucker for purple things. I think I can finally say that purple is my favorite color. When I went to the Berkeley Bowl last week I ran into these gems.... I usually buy the purple potatoes from there since it's one of the cheapest I've seen, but this cauliflower was just too pretty to pass up!.. Unfortunately, when they were cooked the color was masked and wasn't so pretty.. I don't think they taste any different. I like the texture of the purple potatoes when boiled, it makes for a wonderful potato salad!
I looked up recipe for aloo gobi. I thought it would be a nice use of these ingredients, well, I started making it and it took a different turn. I'm not sure what dish I made, but it was delicious. It was essentially aloo gobi with more gravy + cream? Maybe there's a name for that... or maybe not... anyway.. it was devoured very quickly... I have a burns in my mouth to prove it :)
I didn't follow a recipe but I'll list the ingredients so I can reference it later-
- oil + garam masala
- yellow onion, potato, cauliflower
- turmeric, madras curry powder, salt, sugar
- water to help cook the veggies
- half/half , whole milk yogurt
Also for lunch, I made this easy chicken dish.. no recipe... just a few ingredients, but surprisingly very tasty!
Yogurt Sumac Quick Marinated Chicken Breast
(as easy as it sounds, mix some sumac and yogurt, rub all over chicken and let it marinate for 15-30 minutes, pan fry or bake as desired) The sumac adds a nice tart to the chicken, I'm not sure what the yogurt does but it always seems to make my chicken a bit more moist. Don't mind the picture, I went a little bit overboard with the sumac... probably got too excited that I finally found it in a supermarket! The day before I made Persian kebabs and tadig.. but my tadig was a few minutes past done.. resulting in a beautifully burnt bottom. It was super crispy and delicious around the edges.. I'll practice a bit more and post updates some day.
