I'm dreaming of a white..Chris...wait it's only November!

The holiday baking is getting a great start this year!!! I actually hate the holidays, call me a Grinch, but this is normally not the best time of the year for me. I think it's the cold, and well... being back in
Norcal, the cold is.. in fact.. cold. But the cold does make me do one thing... stay indoors...

'
Tis the season to be baking and gifting all my wonderful family and friends, they are a lucky bunch hm? I'm pushing myself more and more just to see where I can go from here. I'm seeing that I'm developing my hand skills by doing these intricate things. I just want to get as steady as possible so that drilling and filling won't be such a problem in the future. *Knocks on wood*

So. I made cake pops, not your average cake balls, the inside was a super moist chocolate cake made from my
fav. recipe, and chocolate frosting ( DH, yes I cheated haha), and dipped in Guittard ( love this company) melting chocolate, and then adorned with marshmallow fondant ribbons and bow ... This was a chocolate sensation, and 100% yummy. I made 5 from the scraps I had leftover from the cherry blossom cake, I didn't get the hang of dipping until the last 2... so here they are, the 2 prettiest cake pops I had.. and trust me the others were..... but now that I know how to dip, I think it should be easy for many cake pops to come :)

View from the top..... so cute !!

So the snowman is
SnowyMinhy. This is my holiday look. It's completely made out of fondant, so you can eat it..... but why would you? This figure took me 2 hours. Yes, slow, but, I wanted to make it detailed and cute, this was my first figure ever.

So I know it's been a while since I've written a story.. here goes:
SnowyMinhy is always really cold in her house, especially when taking pictures of her creations in the den which is an extension to her home. It has the best lighting, and it is 50-55 degrees in there, she shivers in the cold while trying to hold steady and take a decent pic and hope not to drop her beloved camera. During her down time, SnowyMinhy likes to cook and bake, and loves wearing her cute apron :) SkinnyMinhy's, SnowyMinhy's warmblooded counterpart, next project will be to sew that apron, but make it much much bigger :)

Hope this inspires someone to start baking. It's the season for giving, I think gifts of homemade foods are incredibly thoughtful, you don't have to spend the big bucks to show someone that you really care. I think that idea gets lost in our society a lot, and it's sad to see people who don't realize the beauty of the simple things in life. Everything that I made costs less than a few bucks, really... nothing is fancy (although it may seem like it is,) I even drastically cut the cost of fondant by making it myself :) . I will get on to planning each and every one of my friend's dessert gift this year, each will probably take me a few hours, but it's well worth my time : )

Until next time, Happy Baking!

  1. Really nice blog, you are really talented! I can't even imagine trying to mold anything that resembles anything real!! (found you via allrecipes.com)

Just a tip, it is really hard to read your blog, the font is very small, and the color very light! Apart from that, keep it up, it's a fun read :)

  2. Thanks a lot!!! : ) Don't worry, if I can mold things, anyone can. Growing up, I always thought I was artistically challenged... it just took a lot of practice, patience, and ... time :( Thanks for the tip! I'll be sure to keep that in mind next time. I didn't think many people read this blog besides me... haha

  3. Hi Minnie! I first saw your present cakepops from Bakerella's popstars site and thought that they were so adorable! May I ask how you shaped the cake into squares?
